GORGEOUS, wearable 1920's dress! Black charmeuse, I think it's rayon, it's a little heftier than silk, and definitely more 'sturdy' than silk is after 100 years. At first glance, this seems to be a simple design, but the shutter pleating on the skirt really makes it special! You can see it in picture 7, it alternates sections of satin and crepe. Also, the construction allows for easy movement in the skirt, because it's kind of like a pseudo-wrap... picture 4 shows it can open up under the drape on the front side. It's 'wrapped' far enough that it doesn't come open, but it does allow for more movement. No closures, this is 'wiggle in'. Overall the condition is FABULOUS... I've had a lot of 1920's dresses come through the shop over the years, but unfortunately most need repair, or are starting to fall apart from age. Not this one! It's sturdy and wearable! The underarms look great, no discolorations, and the seams are all tight, except a little seam stress at the back armholes. I did find a couple of little holes in the front hem, but it's in the hidden part, the INSIDE of the 'wrapped' part. So they don't show when this is worn. The beige mesh lace collar has some little pinholes in it, and the cuffs have some darkening, but the trim is all tacked on, so it would be easy to remove for cleaning, repair, or replacement. A little big for me as a modern S, I wear about US 4 on top and 6 on bottom, and the dress is not 'pinned back' on me at all in the pictures. This does need to be a bit loose on you for a proper fit, since there is no stretch. Also need to have room to shimmy into, since there are no closures. 1920's dress were meant to be loose and nearly 'shapeless', as a rebellion against the crazy corseting of previous decades. Please compare the measurements below with a dress you have at home that fits well. Has been dry-cleaned.
